History of No.1

November 17th, 2010

George Mallory, Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Percival Hillary and Mount Everest; Richard Byrd and the North Pole; Roald Amundsen and the South POle – what do they all have in common? Is it because they took risks to get to places others have never been? Yes. What else? They all took Primus stove on their trips.

The Primus stove is the first pressurized-burner kerosene (paraffin) stove that was developed by Frans Wilhelm Lindqvist (1892) and manufactured later on with his partner Johan Viktor Svenson. Based on the design of a hand-held blowtorch, the Primus stove (considered as No.1 stove but was quickly followed by other designs) earned the well-deserved reputation as a reliable and durable stove for everyday use and performed best under harsh or adverse weather conditions like when camping or mountain climbing.
