The extra space can accommodate your valuables so it doesn’t get wet and you don’t have to worry about your stuff being stolen. Bigger tents will be heavier. A 30 plus pound 6 person tent is just right for a person to carry. Any bigger and heavier, I suggest get two smaller tents carried by two people.
