Various Functions of Tents

Temporary shelter is one of the most important things-to-bring when you go on a hiking or camping trip. It may not necessarily give you all the comforts you get from your home but should at least be good enough to keep you dry and warm. These portable shelters are called tents. They are typically made up of fabric or other materials attached to poles or ropes. Depending on the size, they can be free standing, attached to the ground or anchored by the use of tent pegs.
Tents can be used in different ways:
- Recreational – for camping, hiking and other outdoor activities
- Traditional – used by nomadic people like Mongolians, Native Americans, etc
- Emergency – temporary shelters for victims of earthquakes, typhoons and other natural and man-made calamities
- Military – used as temporary barracks by military men; characterized by their quick set up and take down
