Hungry Campers

My friends and I love to go camping when our schedules are free. It gives us ample time to relax and forget about everything else in the city. I would usually have these things planned out early on, but there are instances when my friends would just show up on my door and tell me that we need to take a camping trip right that moment. This is the reason why I always have my camping essentials ready in my cabinet so I need not worry when these instances arise.

One of the things which I need to bring with me is camping cookware. I am simply not the type of person who would find canned goods appealing after a whole day of walking and strolling around. This way I can prepare my meals hot when we have to eat right away. It is also wonderful for the following day when I need to have a hearty breakfast. I can miss out on a lot of things, but food is always something I must have prepared fresh and hot.

Camping is a well-loved activity be it children and adults alike. Going out and discovering many things which are not normally found in the city can be an exciting adventure. It also allows people to take themselves out of the pollution, noise and the disturbances found in the city. Getting out of the city is a way by which some people relax, clear their minds and unwind given the busy work schedules they keep.

Since not all the conveniences of city life is made available in the woods, it is important for campers to bring everything they need with them. For example, camping cookware is essential in order to prepare meals during the stay. Given that there are no kitchens in the woods, it is a must to have everything needed in terms of utensils and food. Nobody would want to starve themselves after a long and tiring day outdoors!

Outdoor Cooking Pot

A Dutch oven is a large, metal cooking pot, sometimes made of the same cast iron as a skillet, or possibly made of enamel, steel, or aluminum. A cast iron Dutch oven is very popular especially when it comes to outdoor cooking. This type of cooking pot is generally heavy and deep, with a sturdy lid that has a handle built into it. The design of a Dutch oven is built to maintain the same thickness of metal for the bottom and the walls so that heat is applied evenly to the food from all directions.

There are also cooking methods that will make it possible to bake foods inside a cast iron Dutch oven when cooking outdoors. This cookware can also be used for almost any other kind of cooking from frying to boiling. A cast iron Dutch oven, and any other cookware made of cast iron, needs to be seasoned before it is used in cooking. This basically involves heating oil or lard in the pot until it bonds with the metal, which will effectively create a usable cooking surface.

Our whole family loves to go on camping trips. We just love to experience the great outdoors and commune with nature. Whenever we go on these trips, we never forget to bring our camping cookware set that we have had for the last three years. We bought an Open Country 26 pieces Backwoods Campkit set that was really designed for family camping trips. It is made from durable long lasting material which packs together for easy storage.

It includes a heavy duty grid, a 10″ saute pan, a 4 quart kettle with cover, a 16 cup percolator, a 1.5 pint plastic bottle, 4 eight ounce cups, 4 nine inch plastic plates, 4 plastic spoons, 4 plastic forks and 4 plastic knives. The total package only weighs a little over nine pounds making it very convenient for us to carry. We still eat delicious meals even when we go camping, thanks to our wonderful camping cookware set.

Just because you are not in your kitchen doesn’t mean that you cannot enjoy good food. All you need to do when you go camping is to choose the food supplies that you will bring and make sure that you have the right camping cookware. Bringing lightweight, compact and nutritious dried foods will not add significantly to the weight of your luggage. Preparing one-pot meals in a lightweight camp stove means that you can enjoy hot and nutritious meals away from your kitchen.

What should you look for in your camping cookware? Consider these:

  • Toughness and durability
  • Dark or black bottoms
  • Tight fitting lids
  • Lids that do double duty
  • Nesting
  • Removable handles
  • Rounded corners and edges

People who love to go camping are always in search for the perfect cooking equipment. A favorite among campers is the cast iron dutch oven. A dutch oven is a thick walled, usually cast iron, cooking pot with a tight fitting lid. The versatility of this cooking pot is what makes it a big favorite among campers worldwide. A cooking pot for camping should be able to do a lot of things.

You should be able to heat water, cook main dishes as well as perform other functions of specific cookware like frying and boiling. This would mean that a camper needs to bring only one cooking pot that could perform multiple functions. This helps the camper a lot since during camping, you should be able to carry everything that you need. The less you carry, the better it is for you to be able to enjoy your camping trip.

Camping with Friends

Camping and hiking out in the wild requires portable cookware. Whenever my friends and I plan our one of our nature trips, we always include my cast iron sandwich maker in the list. We use this trusty piece of cooking equipment to grill sandwiches and heat other foods in. It’s easy to clean although it can be a bit heavy.

When we’re too tired to cook, we also have trail mixes, beef jerky, and some canned goods we can prepare in a jiffy. Later at night, we would just roast marshmallows on a small bonfire while we gaze up at the stars. I love these adventures with my friends. They always refresh us and make us ready to face a new week of office work when we return to the city.

Dutch Ovens – For You Camp Cooking Needs

Camping is just one of the few outdoor activities I love to do. Just being out there and being one with nature gives me a sense of comfort. Even though the trek to the campsite and setting up camp is tiring, I still feel content and accomplished. But it isn’t always fine and dandy. I’ve had my share of camping mishaps. One I will never forget was when I forgot my Dutch oven.

A cast iron dutch oven, also known as cowboy dutch ovens, is a sturdy piece of kitchenware. It has three legs, a wire bail handle, and a concave rimmed lid. The lid is shaped as such so the coals from the cooking fire can also be placed on top and below the pot. This style can provide uniform heat, transforming the pot into some sort of oven. It is very ideal for cooking over campfire, so when I forgot that during one camping trip, cooking our food became a bit of a challenge. It’s a good thing one of my companions had a small pan with him. It wasn’t as big and as sturdy as my Dutch oven, but it would have to do.
