Before leaving for camp, make a checklist of everything you need to bring a few days before to make sure you don’t forget anything. Based on surveys, here are some of the top camping equipment that campers consider essential aside from food and water:

  • Tents and sleeping bags which come in different shapes, sizes and styles. Both shelter you from the elements so make sure to buy one that will suit your needs.
  • A first aid kit for emergencies, lanterns, flashlights and extra batteries.
  • A sharp pocket or utility knife you can use around the campground and a camp stove to cook your food in especially if you’re not an expert at cooking over a wood fire.
  • Adequate clothing, like rain gear and several changes of clothes in case you encounter bad weather.

Things to Consider when Buying a Tent

There are many different types of tents. The basic qualities that should be considered are durability and ease of set up. Other qualities that should be considered include its weight, ability to protect from rain and snow and stability in windy weather. A tent’s durability will depend on the skeletal set up and the quality of the fabric used. Hiking tents just like any other kind of tent should be easy to setup especially in rough conditions.

For a hiker, the weight of the tent is a matter of importance. The lighter the tent the easier it will feel on your back. While its ability to withstand the pressure brought about by water or snow and its ability to withstand wind pressure is important, roominess should also be considered. Take note that in rough conditions, cooking and eating might have to be done inside the tent. Be sure to bring the right size for the group; but consider your ability to carry it on your back.

Little Room for Two

I have a two year old son who loves running around. When I pregnant I wanted a daughter so I could have someone to go shopping with. However when I saw my son I immediately fell in love with him. My husband is already planning his father and son camping trip. He already had the tent all picked out. He got a Big Agnes Seedhouse Tent that can fit both of them.

A Big Agnes Seedhouse tent may sound like an enormous tent, but it’s actually small. The tent is perfect for kids to sleep in. It is also very easy to assemble. It can be assembled in two minutes. The poles are easy to set up. You can expect to be protected from insects while inside the tent. It is rain proof and lightweight, you can bring it with you anytime anywhere.

Get High, Literally

One of the most enchanting places on Earth is atop a mountain. The air is fresh. The view is fantastic and you’ll be closest to the heavens. When climbing up a mountain make sure you have the right gear. Bad or wrong gear can cost you your life. Some essential gear are backpacking tent, sleep bag, earth pad, stove and a Swiss or hunting knife.

When getting a backpacking tent make sure you get one that’s suited for the terrain you’ll be climbing in. I once went climbing with some friends. One guy lost his tent due to high winds. Good thing we were there. If not, he could have died from the freezing weather.

Nothing Beats a Hot Meal

My favorite place on Earth is on top of a mountain, any mountain. To me, it’s the most sacred place on Earth. It’s the place where I feel closes to God. Climbing a mountain and reaching the summit is no easy task. It’s tiring. My consolation is a good hot meal. Nothing beats a hot meal up a mountain. To prepare my hot meal I use a propane camp stove.

A propane camp stove works well in high altitudes. I learned that the hard way. I initially had a butane stove but it didn’t work well. Actually, it barely worked at all. Later I found out that butane stove doesn’t burn well at high altitudes.
