In anything that you do, wherever you are, you are always safer when there is enough light. This becomes more so in camping because you are in unfamiliar territory and you never know what lurks behind the darkness. That is why lanterns are necessities when it comes to camping and they should be chosen with care. There are different varieties of camping lanterns in the market. They are chosen based on their power source, construction and special features. There are lanterns powered by candle, liquid fuel or electricity. Consider their advantages and disadvantages.

Candle lanterns are the oldest type; they tend to provide very little light and are affected by the wind. They are also lacking in safety features. Lanterns that use liquid fuel or cartridge tend to be heavy and fragile. They are, however, useful in providing heat as well as light. Electric powered lanterns are very popular. They eliminate the need to carry cartridges of fuel; it is safer and provides brighter and cleaner light.

Backpacking is not only a fun but a healthy endeavor. An average backpacker can burn over 4,000 calories per day. It is a great way to lose weight and get in shape. Backpacking can reduce the risk of heart diseases and strokes. It is a way to reduce stress and recharge.

A major consideration in backpacking tents is its weight. But of course, there is also the need to consider the kind of shelter that is needed. For a summer trek, an ultra light shelter will suffice; not so for a winter expedition. Three-season backpacking tents are considered the best option. Our whole family just loves to go on camping trips. We try to do it at least once a month. Whenever we go on these camping trips, we never forget to bring our ever reliable Brunton stove. This particular stove has been with us for the past four years. It has given us invaluable service in helping us prepare our meals outside of our home. Camping outdoors doesn’t mean we cannot enjoy delicious home cooked meals.

Our stove is a Brunton Profile 2 burner stove. It is very convenient as we can cook two dishes at a time. It has a very slender design which is great because it takes up very little space on the picnic table. It is also lightweight and packs away very neatly for easy storage. We’ve cooked a lot of great meals with our Brunton stove. It will always be a part of our family adventures in the years to come.

People who love to go camping are always in search for the perfect cooking equipment. A favorite among campers is the cast iron dutch oven. A dutch oven is a thick walled, usually cast iron, cooking pot with a tight fitting lid. The versatility of this cooking pot is what makes it a big favorite among campers worldwide. A cooking pot for camping should be able to do a lot of things.

You should be able to heat water, cook main dishes as well as perform other functions of specific cookware like frying and boiling. This would mean that a camper needs to bring only one cooking pot that could perform multiple functions. This helps the camper a lot since during camping, you should be able to carry everything that you need. The less you carry, the better it is for you to be able to enjoy your camping trip.
