One of my friends asked me a few weeks back to go on a backpacking trip with her. Since I was fairly new in the city and she was the only one I knew aside from my co-workers, I decided to spend some time with her and come to know her better. It was also a great opportunity for me to take a breather after experiencing a lot of stress and anxiety after moving to a totally new place that is far from home. Not only that, I have never really gone backpacking so it was an adventure I would be most willing to try.
Since I only have my essentials brought with me to this new place, I did not have the gear and equipment to use for the trip. She was kind enough to lend me some of her extra stuff, since I found out later on that she loved going on different adventures with her close friends. I had a great time which allowed me to relax and start being happy about my decision to move and take the new job. One of my favorite past times is camping out in the woods, something I deeply enjoy even as a kid. Joining my husband and my kids to camp is one of the activities I used to dread. I always got to have everything I need within an arm’s reach, and this is one of the few places where this is not available. There are times when people like to go outdoors alone. This is not a sign that they are not sociable, they just need time for themselves or what they usually call ‘alone time.’ I also experience this most of the time especially when I feel burned out from my job.
