Camping is one of the favorite leisurely past times of many people. It allows them to be one with nature and appreciate the great outdoors. Camping trips not only help one discover about the natural beauty that Mother Nature has, but also discover things about himself like endurance and adaptability. Given that being outdoors strips an individual from the comforts of the things he as at home, not everyone is able to fully adapt to a life without electronic gadgets, a well-functioning bathroom, and electricity all day.

Surviving camping trips would be easier should you have the right equipment with you. A sturdy tent with tent accessories would ensure a bit more comfortable sleep outside. Comfortable clothes and lightweight shoes allow you to protect yourself from nature’s elements. Food, water and tools to help you work around the premises is also important for a much more pleasurable trip. Camping can be fun, should you only learn to appreciate the simple things it can offer.

Camping is an experience that is beneficial for different reasons. It is one of the best ways to connect with family members. In the absence of computers and televisions in the camp site, family members have no choice but to enjoy each other’s company. Camping is also a less expensive way of enjoying a vacation. Less money is spent driving than flying to some faraway vacation destination.

Because camping needs a lot of preparation, members of the family can contribute in whatever way they can. One can plan the activities for the group; another can gather the food supplies needed. Camping stoves are important equipment to take along. Choose stoves that are compact enough to easily fit in your car. Camping stoves will make you enjoy a warm filling meal anywhere you are.

Cutting Implements – High on the List of Camping Tools

After purchasing big ticket camping gear such as the tent and stove, you will want to look at other camping tools. You will need proper clothing and footwear for camping. I would also bring along the following: a rain tarp, butane lighter, canteen bottles, pliers, duct tape, rope and also one of those little tiny sewing kits. Don’t forget a really good flashlight or perhaps two or more depending on the amount of people in the camping party. Also don’t forget those utensils for cooking and eating.

Cutting implements are high on the list. You will probably need a small axe for cutting wood. Definitely, you will need a few camping knives. A practical size one will be at least 4 to 5 inches long with a thin, flat blade. This will make cutting meats and vegetables a cinch.

Why Some Campers Choose the Hammock

October 6th, 2010

There are reasons why some campers prefer to sleep in hanging hammocks rather than in conventional tents. A camping hammock is suspended from the ground usually tied to tree trunks. These are similar to hammocks that we set up in our backyards. Some designs are meant to improve comfort by including a tarpaulin cover to protect against rain. Another design includes a mosquito net.

Camping hammocks can be used in places where the conventional camping tent cannot be set up. Examples are stony ground and sloping terrain. The suspended hammocks will also protect from small animals and reptiles that may stray into the camp ground. Hammocks allow a free flow of air making it appropriate for the summer months. This can be a disadvantage during the cold weather.

A well lighted campsite is a safe campsite. You love animals but only the domesticated kind. You will not welcome a visit from an adult bear that just came walking by and became curious about unusual activity in his territory. Camping spotlights will keep you in full sight of everything beautiful as well dangerous. You are better prepared to meet challenges.

There are more ways to keep wildlife away from your chosen location. No matter how cute they may look, always treat wild animals as adversary. Admire them from afar. Be sure to keep your surroundings clean especially of food scraps. They are magnet to wild animals.

Don’t Get Sick While Camping

Camping is a wonderful experience until you get sick from any illness. Avoid contacting a waterborne disease while having fun in the outdoors. Bring along camping water filters every time you go camping. It is always recommended that you filter, purify or boil drinking water while staying out in the wild for days.

Many lakes and streams are actually found to be contaminated with viruses and bacteria. Never drink directly from these water sources. Or else, you will be vulnerable to ailments such as nausea, diarrhea and abdominal cramps that will cause considerable discomfort and hinder your fun, camping activities.
