When you get some time freed up for a vacation, you want to know if it is the right time to go camping. Anytime is a good time if you are comfortable with the weather. Most people will choose a time when it is warm but not hot. An ideal time will be when it is semi warm, going down to about 20 at night. You will want to re-think your plan when it is freezing cold.

Whenever you are ready to go, remember to double check your camping gear. You will need shelter, clothes, food, clean water, bedding, sanitary/health items and food preparation equipment. Be sure that you are bringing the right tools for the kind of camping that you are doing. Are you out to catch some fish? Would you rather climb a mountain? Where you are going will determine the kind of gear that you need.

You love the great outdoors. You are lucky to share your love for nature with your family. From time to time, you go out and explore the world with your husband and kids. You drive to somewhere remote where you can bond as a family by the campfire. You always enjoy these moments spent with the people you love the most.

With your truck filled with outdoor supplies, your family has everything they need to keep them comfortable. Of course you packed enough food to last you a couple of days without being hungry. You know that your son eats a lot and you wouldn’t want him complaining that there isn’t enough to munch on. Together with your husband, you set up a fire that would serve as something that provides warmth. Your husband gets his guitar and everybody sings to songs that the family loves. You are one with nature and you are in bliss.

Having the right camping gear will make your vacation a happy event. What outdoor camping equipment should you bring along? It will depend on the kind of camping that you are doing. Generally, you will most likely need a tent with some form of matting where you can lie on. A sleeping bag will be the best but if you are in a location that is warm a sleeping mat will do alright. You will also need some cooking equipment. Make sure that you have enough fuel with you.

As darkness rolls in, you will be looking for a light source. It is time to set up your camping lanterns. Make sure that they are safe. Avoid lanterns with liquid fuel that can topple and cause a fire. The safest camping lanterns are battery powered but those that provide the best light are powered by propane or kerosene.

The number one rule in any camping or hiking trip is “Go Light”. You should then be able to identify only the important things that you need to bring so you could keep the weight at minimum. It would be therefore wise to bring only the essential camping gear. If you have companion, you can share the weight by sharing things like toiletries, etc.

Basic camping gears that you should put on your checklist include:

  • Water
  • Food
  • Tent
  • Sleeping bag
