Create sparks easily that will help you make a fire more quickly. Always make a FireSteel part of your camping survival gear. Learn how to use it optimally by solidly grasping the right side of the scraper firmly in your right hand so the thumb covers the FireSteel logo. Hold one end of the FireSteel firmly with your left hand.
Place the FireSteel in the “nock” of the scraper (narrow part meets wider part) and make sure the word “UP” on the scraper is visible. Tilt the scraper to an angle of 45 degrees with the FireSteel then press the scraper down hard. In one smooth motion, scrape along the entire length of the rod in the direction away from you. Scrape hard and scrape fast and you’ll see sparks fly.
